Travel Advisor, based in Djerba

Dès que l'on s'éloigne des côtes, la Tunisie révèle une abondance de témoins de son histoire. C'est cette Tunisie-là que nous aimons faire découvrir, à votre rythme.

Arbi

From Tunisia, Arbi loves showcasing a country of contrasts, where bustling medinas meet the hanging villages of the south, where the Mediterranean encounters the gates of the desert. Through his itineraries, he seeks above all to reveal a living Tunisia, deeply human, made of encounters, traditions and landscapes that shift with every kilometer. As curious about daily life as he is about heritage, Arbi places great importance on the pace of travel: having coffee in a white and blue alley, crossing the southern oases, sleeping at the edge of the Sahara or sharing a meal in a family home. His approach blends simplicity, on-the-ground proximity and a desire to convey the particular atmosphere of the country, far from fixed images. With him, Tunisia is discovered in the details, in exchanges and in that Mediterranean gentleness that often lingers long after the journey ends.

Everything you need to know about Tunisia

Our local experts share their knowledge to prepare your trip.

When to visit Tunisia?

Tunisia can be visited almost year-round, but each season opens a different door. Spring, from March to May, remains our preferred period for a circuit in Tunisia: the oases of Tozeur and Douz are cool in the morning, almond trees bloom in the Dahar, and the desert can still be crossed without heat constraints. Autumn, from October to November, offers very similar conditions, ideal for combining ancient sites and trekking in the south. Summer concentrates naturally on the coasts of Djerba, Mahdia or Tabarka, when the interior exceeds 40°C. As for winter, it reveals an unexpected Tunisia: starlit nights in the Sahara, quiet medinas, raking light over Dougga or El Jem.

What budget should you plan for a trip to Tunisia?

Tunisia remains one of the most accessible Mediterranean destinations, but a trip's budget depends mainly on the type of itinerary you choose. For a classic cultural circuit between Tunis, Kairouan, El Jem and Djerba, with quality accommodation, English-speaking guide and private vehicle, expect an average of 90 to 130 € per person per day. A Saharan expedition with bivouac, camel driver and cook around Ksar Ghilane or the Grand Erg Oriental runs roughly between 130 and 180 €. Flights from France, often affordable, add to this base cost. To this are added a few very local expenses — hammam, Guellala pottery, lunch with a local family in the Dahar — which weigh little financially but leave lasting impressions.

Why organize your trip with a local agency in Tunisia?

Working with a travel agency based on the ground transforms the very nature of your trip. From Mellita, in Djerba, we work directly with the camel herders of the Grand Erg, the Berber families of the Dahar, the archaeologists guiding Carthage or Dougga, with no intermediaries. This allows us to adjust an itinerary on the fly, to stay in a restored ksar rather than a standard hotel, or to book dinner at a potter's home in Sejnane. Being an English-speaking local agency means responding quickly, speaking the language of the land, and knowing the back roads of southern Tunisie. And thanks to Nomadays, you pay in euros from France, with the legal security that comes with it.

What to see on a tour in Tunisia?

A trip to Tunisie rarely fits into a single frame. The medina of Tunis and the ruins of Carthage set the pace of ancient times, extended by the Phoenician site of Kerkouane and the amphitheater of El Jem, one of the best-preserved in the Roman world. Further south, Kairouan opens the Arab-Muslim sequence, before shifting toward landscapes: the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza, the salt lake of Chott el Jérid, the fortified ksour of Tataouine, the perched villages of Dahar such as Chenini or Douiret. The Sahara, reached from Douz or Ksar Ghilane, reveals itself on foot, by camel back, or by 4x4. Djerba, finally, blends the synagogue of la Ghriba, fishing ports, and whitewashed alleyways.
